As we are in lockdown in the UK I’ve had the time to do more training, currently doing 12+ hours per week and following a Team Alpecin training plan.
However, I’ve been finding it increasingly difficult to hold power at the required levels. On Tuesday I couldn’t even hold FTP for 5 minutes….
I mentioned it to my regular riding partner and he asked me when I had last had a rest week, checking back through Training Peaks showed it was 6 weeks ago… Far too long for a 56 year old.
So this weeks plan has been changed to social rides on Zwift only and going to try to keep power in zone 1 and 2 for the duration.
I’d normally try to have a lower intensity week every 4 weeks, but best practice for a senior rider over 50 is to rest every 3 weeks.
We would have normally chatted about how training was going on our Saturday morning cake ride, but as these haven’t been happening for a couple of month’s I’d not had a second opinion on how I was progressing.
So make the effort to check in with you normal riding friends to see how there training in isolation is progressing and don’t forget to tell them to have a rest week!
